Loss of Short Term Memory?
I’m sixteen years old and I’ve been having weird, abnormal loss of my short term memory. It’s not the usual forgetting something every now and then. It has been happening often and I don’t understand it. I’m wondering if there is anything like an illness or disorder I may have developed.
I’ll go ahead and say that I am anorexic, and have been for the past year and a half. I’m male, 5′ 10″ and weigh 115-120. (depends how much i eat and what not) I have drank Red Lines (the top energy drink on the market) for the past year and half, almost everyday varying between one and three a day. I take laxatives. I take energy pills. I have smoked for about three years now and have for the past couple of months been smoking a pack a day. I’m in an extremely emotional relationship right now in ways that you could never even begin to imagine. My sleeping patterns are way off.
I don’t go outside much at all or do things at all.
Most of my time is spent in my room on the computer, reading, etc.
Anyways, wrapping this up, I lose my short term memory way too often. It’s beginning to make me worry and all.

Memory loss can be caused by lots of things; physical and emotional stress, which it sounds like you have, lack of sleep, nutrient defeciencies, and im sure theres more!
It sounds like you need to see a doctor about your original issue of anorexia which im sure would be contributing to your memory loss in some way you can’t even think of! I really think if you start sorting your health problems out, it will all make sense and come together, and you will begin to deal with your issues and move on.

Your question is nice…
short term memory is used for a period of I think its 7 days to 2 weeks then it will fade.
Long term memory is a memory that you recall even in months.
I will share you a little fact– did you know that an energy drink can boost your short term memory. example–coffee, anything that has caffeine. But the downfall is affects the other memory areas.
All have to do to regain much information is drinking enough water, eating a balance diet., and processing the information by heart.

1. Stop with the laxatives! They deplete your electrolytes, which, if depleted will definitely affect short term memory and concentration.
2. Do your “energy pills” contain caffeine? If so, they will conversely sap your energy. Energy drinks are notorious sleep disrupters.
3. Stop smoking – you’re depriving your body of oxygen. No wonder you can’t remember things dude.
4. As for the anorexia and the stormy relationship, you should really see a psychiatrist as these things are emotional issues, but they tend to manifest in the body.
Get out some more, even if you have to force yourself at first. You need to take that body of yours and start treating it to new experiences, show it some stuff or places. Yes, it sounds strange, but think of your body as something you have to take care of. Start looking outside of yourself and break off with constant introspection. There’s a body out there, and it’s suffering just as much. Only you can save it.

first lets define short term memory.
short term memory is not used for 7-14 days. its memory that lasts only appox 18 seconds, its also known as working memory because its generally what you’re currently thinking about. for example, as you read this, your holding words sequences toghether in your STM (short term memory) in order to make sense of these sentences. LTM (long term memory) include memories that are encoded from STM to LTM. You can store something in LTM and have the memory gone after a week. Memories decay or are intercepted for many reasons. You’re most likely having issues with LTM. As others have said before, consult with a doctor for these issues you’re having as all of them have an effect on your body and mental health. Best of luck to you. Take care of your body. It’s the only one you get to have.
