There are no rules governing such short-term lets but it does appear that if you intend to let a room in your house for only 6 weeks, requesting 4 weeks rent in advance may be a little excessive.
If your lodger is to pay rent weekly, perhaps a deposit equal to 2 weeks rent will seem more reasonable. It is simply a matter of negotiation – there is no right or wrong in this circumstance.

This type of short term rent, falls in the catagory of hotel, motel rentals………collect the rent weekly, and a 2 week dep is all thats needed……
if you collect the rent for 30 days, and they decide not to pay the next month, you have to give a 30 day notice to evict……………………………………………………………….collect by the week, and you only have to give a 7-day notice…
thus….2 wk dep. covers the one week, rent…plus one wk security
